Our Journey
The Home for the Visually Impaired was established in January 2023 by The Garden Social Services to address the needs of visually impaired children in the community and surrounding areas. The centre provides a safe and supportive environment for both boys and girls of school-going age, enabling them to receive quality education and develop skills that empower them to lead independent and fulfilling lives.
Activities:
• Housing and education of visually impaired children.
• Specialising in braille education.
• Promoting games for the Visually Impaired.
• Sports and other recreational activities.
• Guide dog training supervised by GuideDogSA
Education:
The children are enrolled at the Prinshof School for the Blind and are transported to and from school on a daily basis. While some remain on the waiting list for admission, the organisation has implemented interim educational arrangements. These include the provision of a homeschooling tutor who ensures that learners remain aligned with the syllabus and are well-prepared for a seamless transition into the school. In addition, a qualified educator is appointed to oversee their Islamic education (Madressah). All required learning materials are supplied in accessible formats, such as braille and large print, to accommodate the individual educational needs of each child.
